General Information Conference headquarters Prague Congress Centre (PCC), 5 Kvìtna 65, 140 21 Prague 4, Czech Republic. The working sessions will take place at the PCC, the Holiday Inn and the Corinthia Towers Hotel. IBA ticketed lunches will take place at the PCC and Corinthia Towers Hotel.
Entry formalities A passport with a minimum of six months’ validity is required for entry into the Czech Republic. All delegates are responsible for checking visa entry requirements for the Czech Republic. Applications can take up to two months to process and delegates from some countries will have to apply for their visa in person at their local embassy. Please contact your local Embassy for entry formalities and apply for any required visa well in advance. For further information please visit the Czech Republic immigration website: www.czechembassy.org At the time of going to print, delegates from the following countries do not need to apply for a visa if visiting the Czech Republic for 90 days or fewer: European Union Member States, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria*, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Hong Kong (SAR), Iceland, Israel, Japan, Korea (Rep), Liechtenstein, Macau (SAR), Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Romania*, San Marino, Singapore*, Switzerland, Uruguay, USA and Vatican City. * Visa exemption is only valid for 30 days.
We strongly advise that you check with your local Czech Embassy a month prior to travelling to ensure that entry requirements have not changed.
We are unable to send visa supporting
application letters to delegates prior to receipt of your registration form and
full payment of fees. Arrival in Prague Prague’s international airport, Ruzynì is situated 20km (12.5 miles) north-west of the city. There are several forms of transport available direct from the airport to the city centre: Express Airport Bus Two express buses run every half hour into the Old Town. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes and costs 30CZK (just under €1). Private Bus Service CEDAZ runs transport between the airport and Námìsti Republiky (metro station by the Old Town Square) between 6am-9pm daily and costs 90CZK (approximately €3) The white minibuses leave from outside the arrivals terminal. Taxi Taxis are regulated however it is important to establish the fare before embarking on your journey, the cost for the 20/25 minute drive from the airport into the Centre of Prague should be approximately 370CZK (€12). Public Transport Prague has an excellent and almost 24-hour integrated public transport system; all fee-paying delegates and registered guests will receive, upon check-in at the IBA Registration Desk, a Metro pass which allows unlimited travel on Prague’s bus, metro and tram networks during the Conference week. Please note that lost Metro passes cannot be replaced. The IBA advises delegates to be aware of their personal safety and possessions, as they would in any other major city. Taxis The IBA recommends the following accredited taxi companies: AAA taxi Tel: 14014, (2) 2110 2211 Profi taxi Tel: 800 118 294, (2) 6131 4151 City taxi Tel: (2) 5725 7257 Business cards of the three taxi companies can be found in your delegate bag or, alternatively, bookings can be made at the Transportation Desk located in the main entrance of the PCC – tel: (2) 6117 7004. Transportation staff will be available on-site at the official Conference social events to coordinate taxi transfers. It is important that you establish the fare before embarking on your journey and for travel within Prague the taxi meter should be switched on tariff number 1. Health and Insurance The International Bar Association cannot be held responsible for any medical costs incurred by participants. Please arrange for individual travel and medical insurance. Banks/Shopping Banks in Prague are generally open Monday to Friday from 0830-1800 and closed at weekends and public holidays. There is a bank located on the ground floor of the PCC, an ATM is available here. The general opening hours for shops are Monday to Friday from 0900-1800 and Saturday from 0900-1300. Wednesday 28 September is a public holiday in Prague, most shops and banks will be closed.
VAT Prices for goods in Prague include the
government’s 19% VAT. Voltage The power supply in Prague is 220 volts AC with two-pin plugs, it is advisable to bring continental adaptors or converters as they are not readily available in Prague. Babysitting The larger chain hotels will often offer a babysitting service, delegates requiring this service should liaise directly with their hotel. Wireless internet connection Wireless internet access is available within the PCC; cards to enable you to use this service can be purchased from the business centre and are available in the following time sessions: 1 hour card 179CZK (E7) 3 hour card 238CZK (e9) 24 hour card 595CZK (e22) Access for the disabled The venues for the Conference working sessions and all official IBA social function venues are accessible by wheelchair. Please notify us if you require special assistance.
Badges For security reasons, name badges must be worn at all times during the Conference and at social functions. Your name badge is your pass for the Congress centre and welcome party and entitles you to free use of the Metro system, trams and buses throughout the Conference week. Proof of identity is required for replacement badges.
Conference materials A list of all Conference materials received at the IBA office by 29 August will be available from the website. From 12 September, Conference delegates will be able to access and download papers free of charge. |
